What is Erectile Dysfunction?
• Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined as the inability to attain and maintain an erection adequate to permit satisfactory sexual performance.
• Worldwide, ED is estimated to affect ~322 million men*
• Up to the late 1990s, medical treatment of ED had been limited to genitally localized interventions, including surgery, vacuum pumps, injectable therapies, and intraurethral suppositories • The introduction of the oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor sildenafil (Viagra®) in 1998 as a first in class oral pharmacotherapy revolutionized the treatment of ED and brought a greater understanding of the science behind ED and its role in men's overall health
