Basic Types of Analysis
Regression: Given an input, what are the most likely values of the outputs (similar to plotting a line of best fit).
Classification: Given an input, which of the possible outputs does it most resemble?
Clustering: Given a selection of unlabelled data, sort it into similar classes.

At its most basic, a neural network is a function that aims to recognise relationships in a set of data. How does it work?
The network is made up of weights and biases. As signals move through the network they are multiplied by the weights and have the biases added or subtracted, eventually arriving at an output. All values in the network will be between 0 and 1, values are mapped onto this range.
