• GDPR - Background

• Background – The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force on 25 May 2018. – The Regulation was immediately applicable in each EU Member State and required no additional local implementing legislation – The GDPR was incorporated into UK law on 1st January 2021, as part of the UK’s exit from the EU • Why? – Codifying privacy as a fundamental human right, as per the HRA (1998) – Increase harmonisation of data processing activities within the EU, promote interaction, unify standards
