The drug product story

Most drugs cannot be administered in their basic chemical form, they need to be transformed into a formulated dosage form – ie, a product – that can be administered to a patient

The key discipline associated with drug product design and development is Pharmaceutics – the science of transforming a drug to a medicine.

The objective of formulation development is to achieve a predictable therapeutic response to a drug and ensure successful full-scale manufacture with reproducible quality
